The Crosswinds Week of Prayer project started in Bristol in 1994 and has since involved many hundreds of churches and church groupings across the UK - praying by each postcode region. Crosswinds was launched in 1994 nationally - at Westminster, London at the House of Lords. The first National Director was Jane Holloway. Jane strengthened the foundations before leaving to head up the prayer department at the Evangelical Alliance. She was succeeded by Canon John Simons. John
Simons has travelled widely in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales
and has now visited all 124 of the
UK's post-code areas, for prayer reasons. Wherever possible,
John forms links with local prayer leaders.
He is particularly concerned to encourage cross-border prayer, so that English Christians (for example) can better pray, in an informed way, for the needs of Scotland (and vice versa). The same cross-border prayer help is much needed between England and Ireland and Wales and Crosswinds seeks to foster this. John Simons has also travelled widely overseas, to meet with Christian leaders, especially those concerned with prayer, in many parts of Africa and Asia, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.
The Chairman of the Crosswinds Trustees is the Marquis of Reading. Co-ordination in the southwest of England is carried out by Mr Chris Faull, who is also Treasurer and a Trustee. There is an inter-denominational Council of Reference. | |||
