Serbia / Greece / Germany: passenger injured and rescued after aeroplane window shatters

A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, was forced to return shortly after take-off when a cabin window became dislodged, causing rapid decompression. Svetlana Grković Maksimović said she and two others desperately held onto her husband, Ljubisa Karović, whose head and right shoulder were pulled outside the aircraft for almost two minutes before they managed to drag him back inside. He suffered serious injuries, including burns, facial trauma and shock, and remains in hospital. Other passengers described hearing a loud explosion before struggling to breathe as the aircraft lost cabin pressure. Ryanair said the plane landed safely and medical assistance was provided. Investigators from Greece, as well as international aviation authorities, are examining the cause of the incident, including reports that debris from the aircraft may have shattered the window.
