Andy Burnham has rejected Russian threats after Moscow warned that the UK would ‘pay’ for supplying Ukraine with drones reportedly used in strikes deep inside Russia. British ministers said the government would not be bullied and would continue supporting Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. The Russian embassy in London, accusing Britain of escalating the conflict, warned that increasing involvement would bring greater consequences. Reports say British-made drones were used in recent attacks on mainland Russia for the first time since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. The UK announced 120,000 drones for Ukraine in April and committed a further 150,000, alongside 350 air-defence missiles, for delivery by the end of 2026. Britain has also supplied long-range missiles, which Ukraine has used against targets in Russia and Russian-occupied territory. Moscow has repeatedly accused London of involvement in Ukrainian attacks, while the UK maintains that its military assistance is intended to help Ukraine resist Russian aggression. Meanwhile, drone attacks at night from both sides continue to cause deaths and destruction.
