Russia / Ukraine war: largest drone attack on Moscow, coinciding with elections

Coinciding with the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections, Ukraine carried out its largest drone attack on the Moscow region since the war began. Russian officials said hundreds of drones targeted the capital, with some reaching a major Moscow oil refinery and a residential building. At least three people were reported killed and twenty injured, including three children. Volodymyr Zelensky praised the strikes on facilities he said were helping finance Russia’s war effort, while Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin alleged that the timing was intended to disrupt voting. Russia simultaneously continued aerial attacks against Ukraine, where officials said three children and a woman were killed. Zelensky said Russia had launched more than two thousand attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 19 missiles against Ukraine during the preceding week. US-led diplomatic efforts to end the war seem to have stalled.
