Ukraine: Russian strikes on Kyiv repeatedly targeting civilians

Thirty-three people have reportedly been killed and eighteen injured after Russian glide bombs struck two passenger buses in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine. Donetsk regional governor Vadym Filashkin accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting civilians, while photographs released by prosecutors showed burning wreckage and victims lying in the road. Kramatorsk and neighbouring Slovyansk form part of Ukraine’s heavily defended Donbas region, which Russian forces are attempting to capture. Following the attack, regional authorities suspended public transport and urged remaining residents to evacuate to safer areas. The bombing follows an escalation in Russian airstrikes across Ukraine, including an attack on an apartment building which reportedly killed 22 people, including five children. Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences and appealed for additional international defensive assistance. With missile interceptors in short supply, Ukraine faces increasing difficulties protecting civilians from sustained aerial bombardment.
