Nigeria: Pray for Peace and Protection

Nigeria: Pray for Peace and Protection

Nigeria continues to face significant security and humanitarian challenges, with communities across parts of the nation experiencing violence, displacement and increasing vulnerability.

A recent attack in Kaduna State left at least 30 people dead after armed men attacked Naridon village in the Kauru area. Residents reported that attackers entered the community, opened fire and caused widespread devastation. The victims included women, children and elderly people. No group had claimed responsibility at the time of reporting, but the attack reflects the wider insecurity affecting parts of northern Nigeria.

The violence is part of a broader pattern of instability across the country, including attacks by armed groups, criminal gangs and insurgent movements. Communities in the northwest, northeast and north-central regions continue to face the effects of insecurity, with many families living under the constant threat of violence, displacement and loss.

Alongside security concerns, Nigeria is also facing a deepening food crisis. Conflict, economic pressures, climate challenges and disrupted agricultural livelihoods have placed millions of people at risk of hunger. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has highlighted that 34.7 million Nigerians are projected to face acute food insecurity in 2026, with conflict-affected areas among the most vulnerable.

In northeast Nigeria, the situation is particularly severe. Recent assessments indicate that millions of people in states such as Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are struggling to access sufficient and nutritious food, with families affected by years of insecurity facing ongoing challenges in rebuilding their livelihoods.

For ordinary Nigerians, these challenges are deeply personal. Behind the statistics are families grieving loved ones, parents trying to provide for their children and communities seeking to rebuild after repeated seasons of hardship.

Yet Nigeria is also a nation marked by resilience and faith. Churches and Christian organisations continue to serve communities through practical compassion, prayer, discipleship and humanitarian support. In places where fear and uncertainty are present, believers are demonstrating the hope of Christ through their willingness to serve and stand alongside those in need.

Nigeria also carries great significance within the global Church. Nigerian believers are active in missions, evangelism and prayer movements across Africa and beyond. The strength and faithfulness of the Nigerian Church continue to encourage believers around the world.

The needs are significant: protection for vulnerable communities, provision for those facing hunger, wisdom for leaders and healing for those carrying deep wounds. As the Church remembers Nigeria, we can pray for God’s intervention in every area from security and justice to restoration and spiritual renewal.

May God bring peace to Nigeria, strengthen His people and allow the light of Christ to shine brightly throughout the nation.

Prayer Response

1. Pray for Protection

Lord, protect Nigerian communities from violence, insecurity and fear. Surround families with Your presence, guard vulnerable people and bring safety to those living under threat. “The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalm 121:7–8

2. Pray for Provision

Father, provide for families facing hunger and hardship. Strengthen farmers, restore livelihoods and supply food, resources and opportunities for communities affected by conflict and crisis. “The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.” Psalm 145:15

3. Pray for Nigeria’s Church

Lord, strengthen Nigerian believers to remain faithful and courageous. Empower Your Church to serve communities, proclaim Jesus and bring hope, healing and reconciliation. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
