Middle East: Pray for Peace

Middle East: Pray for Peace

The conflict involving Israel, Iran and the United States has entered another tense phase, with renewed attacks threatening to widen an already devastating regional crisis. What began as direct confrontation between Israel, Iran and the United States has increasingly drawn neighbouring nations and regional allies into the conflict, raising concerns about further escalation.

Jordan has intercepted Iranian missiles targeting U.S. military sites, while the United States and Saudi Arabia have carried out strikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq. Attacks involving drones and missiles have also threatened infrastructure and energy facilities across the Gulf, demonstrating how quickly instability can spread beyond the immediate battlefield.

The Strait of Hormuz has become another major pressure point. The strategic waterway carries around a fifth of the world's oil supplies under normal circumstances, making restrictions on commercial shipping a concern not only for the region but for the wider global economy. Diplomatic efforts to restore safe passage have so far struggled to produce agreement, with Iran insisting on its right to control access through waters it considers to be within its territory.

Israel remains central to the regional security crisis. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has continued discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, with Iran and the wider security situation high on the agenda. Alongside military pressure, diplomatic efforts continue, although significant disagreements remain over Iran's nuclear programme, regional influence and the future of the conflict.

For ordinary people across the region, however, these strategic developments translate into very real fear and uncertainty. Families in Israel, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and neighbouring nations face the possibility of further attacks, disruption and displacement. In Iran, civilians are experiencing the effects of conflict through damaged infrastructure, economic pressure and disruption to everyday life.

The conflict is also creating wider humanitarian and economic consequences. Disrupted shipping and energy supplies can affect food prices, transport and livelihoods far beyond the Middle East. Meanwhile, communities already affected by years of conflict and instability remain particularly vulnerable to any further escalation.

Yet amid the uncertainty, there remain opportunities for diplomacy. Regional leaders and international powers continue to explore possible pathways towards de-escalation, even as military confrontation continues. For the Church, this is a reminder to pray not only for an end to violence, but for God to intervene in the hearts of leaders and peoples across the region.

The Middle East remains a place of profound spiritual significance. We pray for Israel's protection and security, for mercy upon the peoples of Iran, and for God to reveal Jesus throughout the region. May He restrain further escalation, protect civilians, open doors for peace and strengthen believers to be faithful witnesses in the midst of uncertainty.

Prayer Response

  1. Pray for Israel's Protection
Lord, protect Israel and its people from further attacks, strengthen its leaders, guard its borders, and establish Your purposes for Jerusalem and the nation. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure.’” Psalm 122:6
  2. Pray for Iran's People
Lord, have mercy on the people of Iran. Protect civilians from the effects of war and open hearts to the truth and salvation found in Your Son, Jesus Christ. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26
  3. Pray for Regional Peace
Lord, restrain further escalation across the Middle East, protect civilians and shipping, guide leaders toward peace, and cause justice and righteousness to prevail throughout the region. “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.” Psalm 85:10

Summary Prayer:
Father God, watch over Israel and the peoples of the Middle East. Restrain war, protect civilians, guide leaders, open doors for peace and reveal Jesus throughout the region as the Prince of Peace. Amen
