A major wildfire has forced residents to evacuate parts of the Scottish Highlands after flames spread rapidly across heathland and into areas of the Cairngorms National Park. The blaze, stretching for two miles, has threatened woodland, homes, and popular visitor sites. Firefighters have worked to create fire breaks and contain the advancing flames, while police evacuated residents from the immediate danger area. Authorities have urged local people to keep windows and doors closed because of heavy smoke and advised visitors to avoid the region. The fire service says the combination of exceptionally dry vegetation, high temperatures, and strong winds has created a very high wildfire risk across much of Scotland, with similar fires reported elsewhere. Emergency crews expect to remain on scene for some time as they seek to contain the blaze. The incident highlights the growing challenges posed by prolonged periods of hot, dry weather. See
