Former University of Cambridge professor Jason Arday has died aged 41, shortly after resigning amid intense public scrutiny over allegations of plagiarism and questions surrounding his academic and fund-raising record. Emergency services found him unresponsive at an address in Battersea, south London, with police saying his death was unexpected but not considered suspicious. Arday denied plagiarism, although he acknowledged errors in some earlier academic work, and said the controversy had led to relentless scrutiny and personal attacks which took a profound toll on him and his family. His relatives described him as a gentle and devoted father, partner, brother and son, saying they were shocked by his death. Cambridge and other universities where he had worked expressed deep sadness and offered condolences. Arday’s appointment as Cambridge’s youngest black professor in 2023 had attracted considerable attention. His death has prompted wider discussion about accountability, responsible public commentary, and the human consequences of intense media and social scrutiny. See
