The Metropolitan Police has launched a criminal investigation into Reform UK following allegations that senior party officials discussed ways of circumventing electoral laws governing foreign donations. An undercover investigation recorded two senior aides apparently considering how money from an American donor could reach the party, including a proposed £500,000 donation channelled through his UK-based son. No payment was ultimately made. UK law restricts political donations to permissible sources, including registered UK voters and qualifying UK-registered companies. A police special enquiry team is examining potential offences under electoral legislation alongside an existing investigation into other donations received by Reform. Two senior party figures, Dan Jukes and James Orr, have since left their roles following the allegations. Nigel Farage says he was not listening closely to the discussion, and categorically denies that Reform has ever accepted foreign money channelled through a British donor. The controversy has intensified scrutiny of political funding and raised wider questions about transparency and accountability of politicians.
