Christians in Chhattisgarh state, India, are facing increasing pressure to abandon their faith and participate in traditional tribal religious practices. In Narayanpur district, two Christian families were reportedly ordered to leave their village after refusing to take part in local rituals and worship of tribal deities. Their belongings were removed from their homes, prompting police to deploy additional officers to prevent further unrest. Under pressure, one father and his son later returned to the tribal faith. In a nearby village, 26 Christian tribal families also reported being told to renounce Christianity or leave, while some said they had been prevented from returning home and subjected to a social boycott. Earlier incidents included police investigations following allegations of forced conversions and another family fleeing into the forest. The Catholic Archbishop of Raipur has said: ‘As we all know full well, this is a self-serving political agenda pursued by those who fund and support attacks against innocent, devout Christians, particularly in Chhattisgarh. May God bless them and open their hearts and eyes to the truth.’
