Morocco: police arrest suspects accused of IS-related terrorist plots

Security authorities in Morocco have announced the arrest of ten suspects accused of belonging to a terrorist cell linked to IS operating in the Sahel region. The coordinated operation took place across seven cities and reportedly prevented planned attacks targeting public safety and key facilities. Those arrested include a former terrorism offender and a minor. Investigators allege the suspects had received instructions from IS leaders to remain in the country and carry out attacks rather than travel abroad. During searches, security forces recovered extremist material, digital devices, and weapons allegedly intended for use in attacks. They also discovered a vehicle believed to have been modified for use in a suicide bombing or vehicle-ramming attack. The investigation continues as officials seek to determine the group’s wider connections. Morocco says its security services have broken up more than 200 suspected terrorist cells since 2003.
