Church leaders in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal are organising rallies and prayer gatherings following a series of attacks on Christian communities after the formation of a new state government. The Bengal Christian Council says the events will promote communal harmony, defend constitutional freedoms, and call for stronger action against hostility towards Christians. Recent incidents include damage to church property, intimidation of clergy and worshippers, disruption of church services, and allegations of false accusations of forced conversions. Christian leaders firmly reject such claims, insisting that faith must always be a free personal choice, and have warned they will pursue legal action against those spreading misinformation. They are also working with church leaders across the state to strengthen unity and support affected congregations. Church representatives have appealed to national and state authorities to uphold the constitutional rights of all religious communities, protect places of worship, and ensure those responsible for violence and intimidation are brought to justice.
