Israel: additional troops deployed to stop settlers besieging Palestinian families

Israeli forces are deploying additional troops near Qusra in the occupied West Bank after settlers trapped two Palestinian families in their homes, cutting their water and electricity supplies and blocking access to their properties. An earlier attempt by Israeli security forces to remove the settlers ended in confrontation, and a nearby settler outpost was subsequently demolished. The US ambassador, Mike Huckabee, condemned the settlers’ actions. The incident comes amid increasing settler violence and displacement of Palestinian communities. Qusra has previously experienced attacks, including the burning of a newly completed mosque. UN figures show that about 3,800 Palestinians have been displaced during 2026 because of settler violence, demolitions and evictions. Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, dismissed the idea that settlements (considered illegal under international law) were an obstacle to peace; they would remain and continue to grow as his country had biblical, historic and legal rights to the land.
