At least 27 people have died after a minibus carrying members of an indigenous African Christian denomination collided head-on with a haulage truck in central Zimbabwe on 28 August. Police said the truck, registered abroad, was overtaking another vehicle when it struck the minibus, which was carrying the worshippers, known for wearing white robes, to a church conference. Seven others were injured; footage showed the minibus burned to a shell. Authorities attribute 94% of Zimbabwe's road accidents to human error, with overcrowded minibus taxis and poor road conditions also contributing. The crash is the latest in a string of deadly accidents on the country's roads, following the deaths of eighteen people in a burning minibus in April. Across Africa, road crashes kill around 300,000 people every year, according to the UN, which says the continent has the world's highest road fatality rate.
