Passengers and crew aboard a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv helped prevent disaster after a co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain and attempted to crash the aircraft. Israeli officials said the captain was stabbed before the jet plunged nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds. Some passengers entered the cockpit and restrained the co-pilot, allowing two other flydubai pilots travelling aboard the aircraft to take control and land safely in Saudi Arabia. The flight was carrying 174 people, mostly Israeli nationals. The injured captain and co-pilot were hospitalised, while one passenger later received treatment in Israel for minor injuries. Flydubai confirmed that an altercation occurred in the cockpit but cautioned against speculation about its cause, saying that an investigation was continuing. The passengers subsequently continued to Tel Aviv aboard a replacement aircraft. Israeli authorities said additional security checks would be introduced for pilots operating flights into Israel.
