Twenty years after its release, the film Amazing Grace is being reintroduced to inspire a new generation with the remarkable story of William Wilberforce, the Christian parliamentarian whose faith fuelled his decades-long campaign to abolish Britain’s slave trade. Producer Bob Beltz believes many younger Christians have never encountered Wilberforce’s example of courageous public witness and faithful perseverance. The film follows Wilberforce’s decision to remain in politics after receiving encouragement from former slave trader John Newton, author of the hymn *Amazing Grace*, who urged him to serve God through public life rather than leave for ministry. Despite repeated setbacks over nearly 20 years, Wilberforce remained steadfast until Parliament finally abolished the slave trade in 1807. Beyond abolition, he helped establish numerous charitable organisations addressing poverty and social injustice. Beltz hopes the film will encourage Christians today to discover God’s calling, engage faithfully with society, and persevere in bringing biblical values to the public square through lives of prayer, conviction, and service.
