More than £150,000 has been raised for the family of Pastor Robert Guanco, who died during the opening day of Big Church Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend, as Christians continue to rally around his widow and daughter. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called after a serious incident at the festival on 28 August; four people were taken to hospital, and Pastor Guanco, an elder at a church in Eastbourne, died at the scene. The church's GoFundMe appeal for his wife Isaeli and daughter Ellie, launched with an initial target of £18,000, was surpassed within hours and has since been raised to £220,000. The church described Pastor Robert as 'a loving husband … a great father … and faithful servant of God’, and has been overwhelmed by messages of prayer and Christian solidarity from festival-goers and well-wishers across the country, including from those who witnessed the incident firsthand.
