Kemi Badenoch has pledged sweeping inheritance tax reductions as part of her party’s plans to revive Britain’s economy and challenge Andy Burnham’s government. Addressing the Conservative conference in Birmingham, she promised to abolish inheritance tax on family homes and allow couples to pass on an additional £1 million tax-free. Badenoch claimed the changes would more than halve the number of families paying inheritance tax. Describing the next general election as a 'battle for the soul of the nation', she emphasised economic growth, lower taxation and greater personal responsibility. Other proposals include reducing employers’ NI contributions for younger workers, tightening access to unemployment benefits for school leavers, and scrapping the proposed mansion tax. Badenoch also ruled out an electoral agreement with Reform UK, insisting the Conservatives would pursue their own political direction. Labour and other opponents have questioned how the proposals would be funded, while uncertainty remains over the Conservatives’ longer-term commitment to the state pension triple lock.
