Seattle is mourning the loss of three people killed during a shooting at the annual Bite of Seattle food festival, where at least four others were injured. Thousands gathered for candlelight vigils as families, friends, and local leaders remembered the victims and called for an end to gun violence. Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba was remembered as a devoted husband, father, and generous friend, while Ashley Whitehead was described as a loving mother who had recently moved to Seattle to be closer to family. Police believe the third victim was involved in what investigators describe as a targeted gang-related gunfight. Two other suspects have been identified, including a 15-year-old already in custody, while officers continue searching for additional witnesses and suspects. Several illegal firearms were recovered from the scene. Civic leaders have expressed deep sorrow that a much-loved community celebration ended in tragedy, renewing calls for stronger efforts to tackle gang violence and protect public spaces from future attacks.
